THE HORN CADDIS.

THE HORN CADDIS.

The horn caddis is one of my favourite patterns for polaroiding lake Jindabyne during the winter months of July and August. A really easy pattern to tie, it should be fished to sighted fish, using a very slow retrieve, in the shallow sandy bays.

Hook: TMC 2457 or similar
Thread: Dark brown
Body: Cream or sandy coloured hare fur or similar.
Ribbing: Medium copper wire.
Head: Peacock herl.
1. Lay a base of thread from the eye to well down the bend of the hook.
2. Tie in the copper wire.
3. Dub a tapered body from well down the bend of the hook to within 3/16in. of the eye of the hook.
4. Rib the body with the copper wire and tie off.
5. Tie in 3 or 4 pieces of peacock herl just in front of the body, twist them together and form a large head, tie off, whip finish. Put a dab of flexement on the thread and go fishing! .
